Let’s take a look at the possibility that you can lose more than 2 pounds a week using a weight loss plot.  You must have a 3500 calorie shortage to lose one pound of stout. To lose 5 pounds a week, you would have to eat 17,500 fewer calories, or a saving of 2,500 calories a day.

To be safe you should not cut your calorie intake below 1200 calories a day.  If your current calorie intake is 2500 daily, and you reduce that to 1200 calories, your daily shortage is only 1300 calories.  You will need to burn 1200 more calories each day in exercise to make a 2500 calorie shortage.

Eating 1200 calories each day and burning the same amount in exercise daily is doable, but how long could you do it?  Probably not for a long enough time to accomplish your goal.

Losing 2 pounds a week on a diet that is less strict and an exercise program that is less strenuous would be much simpler in the long run.  Shedding 40 pounds in 5 months would be fantastic.  Eating fewer calories in lean proteins, healthy fats (avacados, olive oil, nuts) and natural carbohydrates (fruits and vegetables) will help you achieve long term weight control. Build heart and lung capacity with cardio exercises and boost muscle with resistence exercises.  Look here for a excellent stout burning diet and the article Body Toning Exercises for some exercise thoughts.

Eating more lean proteins will help keep you from losing muscle and it will also keep you full longer.  Green vegetables and lower calorie fruits boost your nutrient intake and help with digestion.  Starchy carbohydrates and simple sugars should be seldom eaten, but healthy fats should be eaten daily in small amounts.  Building muscle using resistence training not only burns calories while you are training, but the muscles take up again to burn calories even when you are at rest.  Weight training also makes your body lean and strong.  You can also burn more calories each day and improve your resilience with cardio training.  Here is an article with reviews of various programs that include all three elements.

So, make up your mind that 2 pounds each week is a lot of stout to lose and that you can reach your goal without butchery physically with programs that are too strict and you cannot stick to!
